GAMES : Tenure Track

Discussions on equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) have highlighted the variety of expectations individuals have regarding educational systems and structures. As a first-generation scholar, it was difficult for me to anticipate what it would be like at a university, and, the ‘rules’ associated with the scientific community.

As part of my McCalla Professorship, I am developing a game Tenure Track (prototype above) that will allow individuals from non-academic backgrounds to simulate the role of a scientist both conducting and publishing scientific research. Concepts taught in the game will include hypothesis testing, peer review, and conference networking.

I hope Tenure Track will illuminate the hidden processes associated with scholarship, better prepare first-generation students and scholars for academic life, promote scientific literacy in a fun and engaging way.
