Opportunities

Student Volunteers

Undergraduate students with an interest in children’s social and emotional development are invited to join our research team as volunteers. Volunteers participate in various research activities within a team environment, including data collection in the field and lab, such as structured observations of elementary classrooms; basic data entry, cleaning, and analyses; literature reviews; and lab meetings. Student volunteers are expected to work 6 hours per week on a regular schedule in the lab and to commit for the full academic year. We are not accepting any additional student volunteers for 2024-25.

Independent Study Students

Students interested in completing an individual research course (PSYCH 396/398 or 496/498) and who have an interest in children’s social and emotional development, peer relationships, or teacher-child relationships are invited to join our team. Individual research students participate in various research activities within a team environment, including measurement development; data collection in the field and lab, such as classroom observations; basic data entry, cleaning, and analyses; literature reviews; and lab meetings. Individual research students complete their projects within the context of on-going research projects. Students are expected to work 6 hours per week on a regular schedule in the lab and to commit for the full academic year. We are not accepting any additional students for 2024-25.

Undergraduate Honors Students

Honors students with an interest in basic or applied developmental research on children’s social and emotional development, peer relationships, or teacher-child relationships are encouraged to join our team. Honors students participate in various research activities within a team environment, including measurement development; data collection in the field and lab, such as classroom observations; basic data entry, cleaning, and analyses; literature reviews; and lab meetings. Honors students conduct their research apprenticeship and research project in the context of the on–going projects in the PEERS Lab.

Graduate Students

Graduate students with interests in soical and emotional development and peer relations in early childhood and who have a strong academic record, research and applied experience, and training in advanced developmental and statistical methodology are invited to contact Dr. Hoglund at hoglund@ualberta.ca to discuss supervision possibilities.
