{"id":19,"date":"2016-12-06T21:59:01","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T21:59:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/isb12-liubagda.c9users.io\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2018-10-17T16:11:43","modified_gmt":"2018-10-17T16:11:43","slug":"call-for-papers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.psych.ualberta.ca\/ISB12\/call-for-papers\/","title":{"rendered":"Last Call for Papers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LAST CALL FOR PAPERS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 12<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> International Symposium on Bilingualism (ISB12) will take place at the University of Alberta, Canada, 23-28 June, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The conference theme is \u201cBilingualism and The Next Generation,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which highlights the importance of the next generation in language maintenance and survival on the one hand, and the importance of the next generation of scholars in moving the field forward on the other.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Papers that fit within that theme in some way are particularly eagerly solicited. However, ISB12 invites papers in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> areas of research in bilingualism and multilingualism (whether linked to the conference theme or not), including but not limited to: linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, applied linguistics, neuropsychology, first and second and third language acquisition, clinical linguistics, language and education, and multilingual societies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keynote speakers include:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Richard Cl\u00e9ment<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Erika Hoff\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Marco Jacquemet\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Enric Llurda\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Roy Lyster\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Virginia Yip<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Virginia Zavala<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Invited theme sessions include:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Bilingualism in the context of World Englishes (organizer: Suzanne Hilgendorf)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; First language learning and the brain (organizer: Thierry Nazzi)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Heritage language learning in children (organizer: Silvina Montrul)\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Immersion (organizer: Diane J. Tedick)\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Indigenous language revitalization (organizer: Jorge Lemus)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Language and thought (organizer: Bene Benedetti)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Language disorders in bilingual children (organizer: Sharon Armon-Lotem)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There will also be a Journ\u00e9e CSJ at the Campus Saint-Jean, the French-language campus of the University of Alberta. Invited theme sessions include:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-French immersion (organizer: Laurent Cammarata)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Proposals<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abstracts are solicited for three categories of proposals: individual papers, posters, and theme sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Individual papers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Papers are formal presentations on original research or original pedagogy-focused topics by one or more authors, lasting a total of eighteen minutes with five additional minutes for discussion. Abstracts should be a maximum of 300 words in length.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Posters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Poster sessions are for displaying original research or pedagogy that offers the opportunity for individualized, informal discussion with others in the field. Posters are especially effective for presenting work-in-progress, fieldwork, and results of empirical research for which data can be presented visually. Posters will be available throughout an entire day of the conference with presenters in attendance for a 90-minute poster session. Abstracts should be a maximum of 300 words in length.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Theme sessions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Theme sessions allow for extended, interactive discussion on a specific topic, focusing on a cluster of independent papers. Each submission should include either three presentations and a discussant or four presentations, for a total of four \u201cslots\u201d. Submissions must include an abstract for the panel (of a maximum of 500 words in length), as well as for each of the constituent papers (of a maximum of 300 words in length).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abstracts may be submitted in either English or French, and presentations may also be given in either language. Apart from this, the main working language of ISB12 will be English (we plan to offer interpretation to and from American Sign Language, if requested).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The deadline for the submission of abstracts will be <strong><span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1197355991\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Friday<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1197355992\"><span class=\"aQJ\">October 19 at 23:59<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0North American Mountain Time<\/strong>.
